BARNUM HALL

Barnum Hall Theatre is a beautiful example of 1930’s Streamline-Art Deco built in 1938 by the Federal Works Project (WPA) and served as the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium for many years.  WPA artisans created a highly praised unique Viking mural on the fire curtain (see photo) and a Viking mosaic in the lobby (see photo). There is a1922 fully restored Wurlitzer 3-manual, 19-rank theatre pipe organ that rides up and down on the orchestra pit lift. The organ can be played manually and is equipped for electronic recording and playback features.

The venue is host to symphonic concerts, dance recitals, silent movies, musicals, plays, commercial filming, church services, conferences, etc.

The venue is located on the Santa Monica High School campus at Pico and 4th Street, just off Interstate 10 and 3-blocks from the ocean.
